On the banks of the northern end of the Willamette River lies Portland, also known as “The City of Roses”. The city earns its name because the climate is ideal for growing roses and features a number of rose gardens, including the stunning International Rose Test Garden nestled in the West Hills. During my 2009 West Coast Expedition, I had the opportunity to explore this beautiful city in detail and discovered many free and inexpensive things to do within the city.
