Green Faced Mummy Coffin

Date: 2008/Aug/21 Thu

Why is the face on the standing coffin painted green?

Green was the color of fertility, and often the god Osiris Painting the images of dead people with green faces showed that they had become like Osiris and would have eternal life.

Gold was also a popular color for coffin faces. It represents the sun-god Re (or Ra). It's also protective: its shining brilliance repels the dangerous demons of night.
