Stela (Egyptian Memorial Stone)

Date: 2008/Aug/21 Thu

This stela is a memorial made by living relatives for the dead.

A stela could also be made to offer prayers to divinities, for favors, or as penance for sins. Still others were used to offer praise for the king, to record historical events, or even as boundary markers.

Memorial stelae also provided places to leave offerings for the dead. When used in this way, they replaced the huge "false door" of more elaborate tombs, like Unis-ankh's tomb upstairs.
