Looking up at green Red Oak
Quercus rubra
Red Oak [90]: This tree is native to eastern parts of the US and Canada. Though usually 70 or 80 feet tall, some trees may reach 150 feet. It is often planted as a park shade tree, in part for its rich fall coloring. Although we think of oaks as growing slowly, this species is characterized by a rapid growth rate. It is closely relate to our native black oak. See posts [13] and [80].
