Instagram Proxies

No free public proxy is safe for an Instagram login. There is no way to know who runs it, and your information can be easily intercepted. If you get a certificate warning, that means it's not safe.

The paper "Free Proxies Unmasked" tested more than 640,600 free proxies in a 30-month time span. Only 34.5% were active proxies, and of these, 16,923 were known to manipulate returned content. You can technically run many accounts on one proxy, but for important accounts, the safer rule is one proxy per account.

This is just a much safer way to deal with accounts, not some sort of rule handed down by Instagram. Households share an IP address without getting banned. The real risk comes from having many accounts with the same signature, rapid switching, and automated behavior.

The most likely reason is that the session looks untrustworthy. This can be from multiple things: use of the same or recycled IP address, frequently changing your location, having too fresh cookies, having device signal mismatches, or too many fast actions.

Use a specific and consistent session for a period of time, located where you normally are. To reduce checks, you have to keep the same session IP address. This may prevent some frequent checks but cannot stop them, and you cannot override an account review.

When a login is rejected, diagnosing connection issues is the first step. When a site does not load, or the client responds with a 407 error, ensure the proxy hostname, port, and protocol, along with the username and password, are entered correctly. As a first step, try testing the route to an IP-check endpoint.

If the proxy is working correctly with other sites and is displaying an open-proxy error with Instagram, or is in a login loop, or is rejecting the login, then the proxy exit is most likely blocked or flagged by Instagram. Replace the exit IP, just don’t do that too frequently.

Collecting data with a proxy is not a clear yes or no answer. It is dependent upon jurisdiction, the data being collected, methods of access, and what the data will be used for. A proxy service will not change the outcome of the factors listed.

According to Meta's position on scraping, data collection through automation is not permitted and will be in breach of their terms of service. Meta has engaged in litigation for scraping, and Instagram will cite this in its data-scraping policy.

Although Meta's legal position is quite extensive, a federal court found that Bright Data's specific logged-off scraping of publicly viewable data didn't breach Meta's terms.

It should be noted that this did not rule on other legal issues that may arise from scraping. To avoid legal issues, limit the data collection to what is publicly available, avoid collecting personally identifiable information, and respect access limits.
