There isn't a set number of how many proxies you need for scraping. You need enough to have a good distribution to not overload any one proxy.
Based on your anticipated request volume, average concurrent sessions, desired response times, expected session lengths, and geographical distribution, you can estimate the size of your proxy pool.
Monitor the frequency of blocked requests, CAPTCHA challenges, and request retries. Increase the size of your proxy pool or adjust request rates when you see an increase in these issues. A smaller proxy pool with a good reputation can be better than a larger proxy pool with a bad reputation.
If you need to route residential traffic, the Smartpath AI Proxy can save on bandwidth costs by only using residential proxies when absolutely necessary and routing the other requests through less expensive proxies.
